TOMATO FESTIVAL IN SPAIN

La tomatina(spain pronancian=(la toma tiual))is a festival that is held in the valencia town of bunol a town located 30km from the mediterranean in wich participants throw tomatoes or get involved in this tomato fight purely for fun. It is held on the last wednesday of august.

HISTORY

in 1648 during a parade of gigantes cabezudos,young man who wanted to be in the event staged a brow in towns main square the plaza del pueblo.

PAY THE DAMAGES

there was a vegetable stand nearby,sothey picked up tomatoes and usd them as weapons the police had to intervene to break up the fight and forced those resposible to pay the damages. This is the most popular of many theories a bout how the tomatina started.
